We’re Somniscura, a games development team based around Canterbury, Kent. We applied to Tranzfuser following the conclusion of our Games Design degrees, and saw it as an opportunity to apply our skills and kickstart our careers in an industry we love. We came together with hopes to make a visually stunning, narratively driven title that would discuss a part of UK culture that is often unspoken of; and saw Tranzfuser as a chance to do just that, with a financial backing that would limit potential barriers for the teams continuation on the project.
As a collective, we strive to instill themes of sustainability, culture, and underrepresentation in our works; and with the help of Tranzfuser we hope to broaden our audience, spread our project’s message, and hopefully even uplift other talent from underrepresented communities.
About the project
Wicca’d is a narratively driven walking sim, centered around the culture, history, and language of Wales. Players follow a fictional sixth Welsh “witch” that is executed during the European witch trials: but whilst the others before her had been blatantly innocent women, there is more to her story than meets the eye…
Following the failed execution of main character Gwenhwyvar, players will experience a four hundred year long span of rich history, covering events from four time periods: all of which will blur together to leave players wondering when they are, rather than where.
Wicca’d aims to be a first for the representation of Welsh heritage and discusses the lack of the persecution of witches within the country. Localized in both English and Welsh, it aims to be a detailed reflection of the country’s culture and under-represented history: set in the historically relevant coastal chapel of St Govans.

Tranzfuser has offered our team the opportunity to utilise and further broaden the skillsets we have developed during our degrees, with a financial backing that allows us to focus on our craft throughout the programme's duration. With only 13% of the games industry being composed of the working class, we found it an important part of our mission to break barriers for not only ourselves, but the underrepresented portion of the talented UK Games and Creative Arts fields. Our hope is that, with the help of Tranzfuser, that we can establish our studio and its ethos, and bring the aforementioned talent to the front of the stage in our coming future. We hope that the project we are producing in the programme makes people feel as proud as we do to make it; which simply wouldn’t be possible without Tranzfuser.
