We have a balanced mix of management and technical skills, and a diverse range of backgrounds: Chester in Computer Science, Wen in Experimental Psychology and Ilena in Geology & Environmental Science. As t-shaped game developers, each of us brings a specialism alongside a broad understanding across multiple domains. We built a strong track record working together, backed by awards that demonstrate our ability to create impactful games. We’re eager to continue that momentum – growing as developers, and challenging ourselves further. As we have yet to publish a game, we’re ready to gain the experience needed to bring a project to launch.

Tranzfuser’s mentorship offers an invaluable opportunity to take the next step in our journey towards establishing a sustainable studio. With Tranzfuser’s support and the full team behind it, we’re excited to take Tulou even further with this opportunity to develop and promote a commercially-viable game.

About the project

Tulou is a single-player narrative crafty-buildy game set in a pre-solarpunk future somewhere between the East and the West. Play as Hui, an elder bricklayer left behind in a once thriving Tulou community. When mischievous spirits and a crumbling road separate her from her best friend, Hui sets out to rebuild. Gather resources, fire bricks, chase away spirits and recruit charming helpers along the way.

Tulou combines hand-crafted miniature wooden models with hand-drawn paper-cutouts, brought to life through animation reminiscent of Chinese shadow puppets. The wooden models and backdrop illustrative style from the design language of classical opera theatre sets. Complemented with light management mechanics and resonant storytelling, Tulou invites players who appreciate indie games with hand-made art styles to restore a decaying community, one brick at a time.

Our goal is to create games that amplify impactful stories. We’ve found that working with people we trust, admire and are inspired by is a sustainable way to do this. That’s exactly how we feel with our martianwho team. Together, we’re excited to combine our skills and establish ourselves as a studio with Tranzfuser’s support.Like the first eight months of developing Tulou, we expect to adapt to challenges with scrappy, creative solutions. We’re eager to lead our team toward founding an indie studio that creates compelling gameplay, strong artistic vision and a mission to create positive ripples through meaningful storytelling. We believe solarpunk, community, and circular economy stories are vital to carving out the potential of an alternative future. At this critical early stage of our journey, access to financial support, mentorship and structured guidance from Tranzfuser is invaluable for helping us bring this vision to life.
